A-1 Visa

The A-1 visa is for individuals travelling to the United States on behalf of his or her national government to engage solely in official activities for that government.

Eligible people include

• Officers of diplomatic missions or embassy posts in the United States such as ambassadors, public ministers, career diplomats, or consular officers
• Representatives of all foreign countries that have diplomatic relationships with the United States and are recognized de jure
• Visiting high-level officials of a foreign state e.g. cabinet members, senators, congressmen, judges, and heads of state

An A-1 visa holder may stay in the United States on an A-1 status as long as the Secretary of State continues to recognize you as a member of the diplomatic community. You may extend your A-1 status by a renewal of accreditation by the Department of State pursuant to a request from a foreign government.
