    JP Sarmiento, Esq. is the founder and principal attorney of the Sarmiento Immigration Law Firm. He is an immigrant who first entered the U.S. as an F-1 student at the age of 18. His practice is solely on immigration law – focusing on different types of non-immigrant visas; family, marriage, and employment-based green cards; citizenship and naturalization applications; and asylum and deportation defense. Mr. Sarmiento has broad experience in representing foreign nationals from 50 different countries and various small and mid-sized businesses. He has been to over 25 Immigration Courts and Offices throughout the country representing clients for immigration hearings and interviews. Mr. Sarmiento opened this practice with client service as his top priority, and the firm’s attorneys and staff members are hired on the basis of preserving the firm’s core values in providing exceptional service to clients.

    JP is authorized to practice immigration law in all fifty states and is admitted to the Ohio Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He obtained his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he received an Excellence in Research and Writing award. Mr. Sarmiento also spent a summer as a judicial intern for Judge Mitchel R. Goldberg at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance, summa cum laude and top of his class in that program at the Southern New Hampshire University. Mr. Sarmiento was also a graduate of the Ateneo de Manila High School and was in the Honors Class A Section throughout.

    Mr. Yu is an associate attorney in our firm. He represents clients in several areas of immigration including deportation defense, employment and family immigration, non-immigrant visas, and naturalization matters. He accompanies clients to USCIS interviews all over the country and represents them for bond, master, and individual hearings with the Immigration Courts. He has accompanied clients for hearings and interviews in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Cleveland to name a few. He also works on several areas of business and specialized non-immigrant visa applications including J-1 waivers of all types, TN visas, National Interest Waivers, EB-5 Investment visas, E-2 and H-1B visas.

    He obtained his JD from Case Western Reserve University.  Prior to law school, Mr. Yu taught students who have ESL backgrounds at an international school in Vancouver, Canada.   Mr. Yu obtained his BA in Political Science and East Asian Studies from McGill University and graduated with Great Distinction.

    Prior to working for Sarmiento Immigration, Mr. Yu worked for two immigration law firms and gained experience in business and family based immigration, and deportation defense.  While he was in law school, Mr. Yu served as a judicial extern for Honorable Solomon Oliver, Jr. at the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Ohio where he developed his strong research and writing skills.  Moreover, he worked as a research assistant for Prof. Laura B. Chisolm and assisted in the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) project.  He was an active member of international-based organizations, serving as the Student Representative for Case Western Reserve to the Asian-Pacific American Law Student Association, and also President of the Korean Student Society at McGill University.   Throughout law school, he has volunteered at the refugee clinic for the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and upon graduation from law school, served for the said organization as a post-graduate fellow. He volunteers his time in online forums and newspapers answering immigration questions for the Korean community.

    Mr. Yu always had a passion for immigration law and is wholeheartedly dedicated to serve people who are in need of help regarding their immigration issues.  It is mainly due to his diverse background - Mr. Yu has resided in Korea, Canada and the U.S. throughout his life.  Mr. Yu is a fluent Korean speaker and has a working level of knowledge in French.

    Arty Wynieski is a senior paralegal at the firm. Arty is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English and is critical to our growing Chinese clientele. She has over 5 years experience in the immigration field, assisting immigration lawyers in preparing asylum and cancellation of removal applications, labor certifications primarily for Chinese restaurant specialty cooks, and almost every kind of family-based immigration case from marriage-based  green cards, fiancé visas, battered-spouse I-360s, I-751 removal of conditions, CSPA cases, and every type of family-based preference petition. She has also provided important translation services for attorneys and hundreds of Chinese clients over the years in preparation for immigration court deportation and bond hearings, asylum interviews, marriage-based green card interviews, long-distance preparations for visa interviews at the US Embassy in Guangzhou China, and client intakes. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics, graduating second in her entire class at National Chengchi University, one of the top universities in Taiwan. Before coming to the United States, she had over ten years of experience as a copyright specialist and editor for several publishing houses in Taiwan, including the prestigious Taiwan Mac Educational Co.

    Cherry. Thanks for the post. It would be good to discuss the case further over the phone. I will call you in a while. Yes, we’ve done J-1 waivers for Filipino clients who got married to a U.S. Citizen.
